KNWN Visibility

What is Entity Optimization?

A KNWN glossary definition of Entity Optimization in the context of AI visibility, search and brand discovery.

Definition

Entity optimization is an informal label for making the identity and relationships of a real person, organization, product, place or concept clear across maintained public sources. It is not a documented universal ranking factor.

Why it matters

Inconsistent names, obsolete product pages and conflicting organization facts can create ambiguity. Use one canonical source for material facts, accurate structured data and reliable references. Structured data must match visible content under Google's guidance.

Example

A company keeps one current organization page, uses the same legal operator and product names across policies, and redirects retired brand pages to relevant final destinations.

Common misconceptions

  • Adding sameAs links creates authority.
  • Every mention refers to the intended entity.
  • Schema can correct false third-party facts automatically.
  • An entity score is visible across platforms.

Interpretation note

Definitions describe terminology; they do not establish an official ranking factor or guarantee an outcome. Confirm platform-specific terminology against primary documentation.
